It's Prime Day, and I get asked all the time which tools I actually use — in the salon and at home. So here's my honest, personal list: the exact tools I reach for every single day.
My #1 pick: the CHI flat iron
If you have fine, fragile, or thinning hair — or you wear a human-hair wig — heat control is everything. Too hot and you'll fry delicate hair; too cool and you're going over the same section five times, which causes its own damage.
That's why I love my CHI. It has precise digital temperature settings, so I can keep the heat low on fragile hair and turn it up only when the hair can handle it. Rule of thumb I give every client: fine or fragile hair stays at the lowest effective heat, and never skip heat protectant.
A few heat-styling rules I live by
- Low and slow wins. One smooth pass at the right temperature beats three passes at high heat.
- Heat protectant every time. No exceptions — on your bio hair and on human-hair wigs.
- Clean your plates. Product buildup on a flat iron drags and snags. Wipe plates when they're cool.
- Wigs need breaks too. Store it on a stand, and keep heat styling to a minimum to extend its life.
