A Morning at the Salon: What Happens Before Your Appointment
Share
Most people only see the salon when they walk in — the calm room, the coffee, everything ready and waiting. But my favorite part of the day happens about an hour before that.
I'm usually there early, steamer warming up, a little Whitney Houston on the speaker (don't tell anyone — okay, fine, tell everyone). Every wig that's going to a client that day gets steamed, smoothed, and checked by hand before it ever touches a head. I look at the part line, the density, the way it falls. If something isn't right, it doesn't go out. Simple as that.
Then there's the fitting room. Private, one-on-one, no rushed chairs and no audience. Just you and me. For my hair-loss clients especially, that privacy isn't a luxury — it's the whole point. Nobody should feel on display when they're finding their way back to feeling like themselves.
By 10:30 the coffee's on and the first appointment walks in. What follows — consultations, fittings, color matching, styling — is the work people know me for after 30-plus years as a licensed cosmetologist. But honestly? The quiet hour before is where the magic starts. That's when I get to love on every piece before it meets its person.
I guess you could say the little details are my love language. A smooth part line. A cap that fits like it was made for you. A room that feels safe before you say a single word. None of that is an accident — it's the job, the way I do it.
